Solstice Gathering 2015 part two "The party"

This year we managed to snatch a few photos of the actual party (and not just a few snaps before people arrived.) This is me with Olly, who had never been to one of our Solstice parties as we did not have him this time last year. He was well behaved and seemed to enjoy himself.
Both Pumpkin and Booty had their necker chiefs on, they partied so hard they slept most of  the next day!
Here are a few photos of family just before the party started having a small drink.

And here are a few of the party itself. We even managed to get a group photo!

We had a few bits of rain, and a few people away on holiday etc but I am pleased to say it was another hit this year.
Thank you to everyone who turned up and also thank you for making the Solstice Gathering a happy and wonderful night.

Solstice a gathering 2015 -part one "Food"

This year for the Solstice food I tried to encourage people to eat edible flowers. It seemed to work well, I got comments that they had never eaten so many petals before, or that the food looks nice and interesting. I managed to get a few photos before it all got eaten.

Also this year we had another composting loo which we made this time out of old polling station booths.

Solstice rainbow

It's that time of the year again when all the wildflowers are out in bloom. The edges of fields ring out with colour, it's my version,of walking through heaven.
The Summer Solstice is a busy time of year for me as it's when I hold my Solstice gathering for family friends and neighbours. This year I collected up the elderflowers and made some elderflower gin for the occasion.
My daughter is going to make up a cocktail with it probably with cloudy apple juice. I've been making lavender shortbread, rose petal butter and borage ice cubes. I like to use everything from the garden so nearer the time I'll be making many more delicious treats.
Then onto my rainbow. I have started building the bottle bricks out of the chakra colours on the decking area, it's not quite finished but it is starting to look effective. I hope everyone had a lovely Solstice and our gathering is in a few days time so we are hoping for sunshine.

Last bed made...

Since my last blog I have laid down a path next to the Motherwort trough, and planted red clover in one of the smaller beds. Then at the bottom of the decking steps I have built up the concrete footings with mortar and made a small spiral with crystals and stones , something I've been meaning to do for a while now. So that side is all finished.

Then we had two days of wind, so this morning I re felted the old shed roof which got damaged, cut the grass and made the last little wonky bed which just fits in between the last bed I made and the
bottle brick composting loo build.

Once it's filled I'll plant them all up. Possible plants to go in there are lovage, self heal, mugwort and maybe the odd bit of veg. It has made cutting the grass a lot easier as it was hard to get the mower in that gap. Tomorrow I am hoping to make some comfrey oil which is good for bruises and sprains etc.
